Welcome to the third day of the Quilted Living Book Tour! I’m Kathy Brown of The Teacher’s Pet and I am so honored that Gerri Robinson, author of this awesome book, asked me to create a project and be a part of this book tour. Of course my answer was a resounding YES!!! As a participant in the tour, we were asked to choose a project in the book and make all or part of that project in a manner that would reflect our personal tastes and fit within our homes. I chose the Basketweave quilt, and since it’s the autumn season, chose fabrics appropriate for decorating during this time.
In fitting with my personality (aka it’s gotta be quick and easy – get it done in
a flash – make it versatile – and get it done BEFORE fall quilt market!!!), I
decided that making just one block from the quilt would be a perfect fit for my
decorating needs. AND in fitting with my personality (gotta make it MY way – put my twist on things – change it up a bit) – you’ll see that the simple to stitch basketweave block got a new look! If you’ll take a look at the basketweave quilt (it’s the gorgeous one on the very left of the picture above), you’ll notice that all of the “bricks” lean in one direction!
For my version, I leaned the “bricks” in opposite directions so that they formed an “X”. Since the block is comprised of four pieces – each one containing a “brick” – it was just a simple adjustment prior to sewing the 4 patch together to make the block and I had my very own version! And here’s how I plan to use my mini basketweave quilt in my own home!
As a settee for my pumpkin!
Or as a mini quilt to sit my favorite lantern on!

Hmmm - what about a candle mat???

and even after the autumn embers have long since faded away, a lovely lamp base!!!

So what do you think? Make a block – or make the entire quilt – you’re going to love this design – and ALL of the design in Gerri’s book just as much as I do – guaranteed!!!
